Please reach out to me if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Parent coaching is customized support to help you identify what matters to you most when it comes to raising your children. As your coach, I will listen attentively, and without judgment, I will ask questions to help you clarify your goals.
We will work in collaboration. Your expertise as a parent is an essential part of the success of our coaching partnership. No one knows your children the way you do, and that knowledge is key to effectively addressing your challenges. As your coach, I am trained to ask questions, propose ideas, point you toward helpful resources, and guide the change process in your preferred future.
Parent coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. Coaching aims to help you achieve your goals towards your preferred future. It would help if you knew where you wanted to go first to ensure you get there. My job is to support you in looking towards that finish line and, once you achieve your goals, to help you maintain them for long-term success.
Parent coaching is strength-based. Coaching helps you identify your unique strengths and the strengths of the other family members. Coaching draws on your collective skills and resources so you can use them effectively in moving forward.
Parent coaching is customized. There is no "one size fits all" in parenting, and your coach, I will never offer you a formulaic answer. Your family is unique, and each situation is accessed independently.
Not at all. Television programs like Super Nanny come into the home and assume lots of incompetence on the part of the parents, sometimes deriding their decision-making abilities. We believe such programs, developed mainly for titillation and amusement, have very little to do with the reality of most parents today. Shows like these deal mostly with over-the-top issues that affect a tiny percentage of actual parents. In addition, the nanny's behaviorist approach used in these shows may be effective in the short term. Still, it will unlikely result in long-term positive, sustainable changes. Parent coaching offers a highly respectful, affirmative approach that catalyzes parent creativity, helping moms and dads discover their unique solutions and providing long-term positive changes.
Parent coaches work directly with moms and dads without the child(ren) present. We use a highly successful coaching model adapted from executive coaching. It presumes that the parent is the authentic authority in the home and that they deserve particular, one-on-one time with a professional parent coach who supports and encourages their decision-making but doesn't make decisions for them. I prioritize flexibility in my schedule so I can be available at times that work for parents.
You chose. Parent Coaches® will work with you in person, over the phone, or via Zoom. Telephone coaching has many advantages: You don't need to hire a sitter or leave your house. You can enjoy the coaching conversations anytime—during your lunch hour at work, in the afternoon when the children are napping, or in the evening when your kids have gone to bed. Also, telephone or Zoom coaching allows you to hire a Parent Coach from anywhere in the world, thus working with someone you are sure understands you and your unique needs, assuring your privacy within your immediate community.
Ideally, we will meet weekly or bi-weekly for 10 to 12 sessions. Real change takes time, and the goal is to create lasting changes in old patterns and habits. Think of a wheel unsafe because it is missing a couple of spokes; when you add new spokes, the wheel turns correctly. If you come to coaching ready to make changes in some of what you have done in the past, it will create change throughout your whole family system, guaranteed!
I also offer shorter-duration coaching; please see the services tab.
Coaching is a collaborative process where you choose the goals you want to work on or the situation you want to improve. I will then help you to keep on target and provide support, consultation, and suggestions to help you achieve your goals. The intention of coaching is for improvement, achievement, and greater fulfillment.
Therapy tends to focus on events that have happened in the past; coaching focuses on what is happening right now that you want to improve or change.
If at any point, the issues transcend our task, I will make a referral to the appropriate mental health provider.
50 % payment is due before sessions start, and the remainder is due after 1/2 of the agreed-upon sessions have been completed. I accept Venmo and Zelle or Cash App. I will provide you with a detailed receipt upon payment so that you can file a claim with your insurer. Some insurance companies may reimburse you for services. Any reimbursement would be based on your policy’s out-of-network rates. If you have questions about your coverage, please get in touch with your insurance company to understand your policy benefits for behavioral health sciences. Coaching services may also be covered under a company’s EAP program, so check with your company to see what types of support services they might offer. Parent Coaches use evidence-based strategies and a well-researched framework for communication and analysis in our work. Coaches work with families in a strength-based approach, helping them resolve any number of parenting challenges.
